On June 1, 2000, the Hanover World Fair will open; the biggest display of all times. This year's theme is "Man - Nature - Technology" and it will be a plea for man's return to nature - with a little help from technology.

The Romanian stand will also open on June 1 at 12.00. The architectural principle of this 25.000 square metre stand is "Perennial in a world of transformation." The walls are made of metal poles that support the real structure of the building - green plants forming a sort of green fabric that drapes the entire ensemble. "Romania's stand is the only one that grows and fades away during its 5 months existence," the presentation on the Internet states. Although the budget granted by the government for Romania's participation to EXPO 2000 Hanover is the smallest of the display (135 billion lei), the cultural programmme will be rich and fully flavoured.

Our participation project is called "Romania - an European rhapsody" and includes tourist programmes and cultural displays. Romania will be present in Hanover with the shows "Saragosa" (Odeon Theatre), "Costumele" (Nottara Theatre), "Toujours l'amour" (Bucharest National Theatre), "Despre tine" (Vava atefanescu), "Anotimpuri" and "Vanatoare de ritmuri" (Oleg Danovski ballet ensemble), "Zi, noapte, zi" (Adina Cezar), shows of the Masca Theatre, fashion, jazz concerts. The art works (wood and ceramics) are signed by Adrian Parvu, Aurel Vlad, Laurentiu Mogosanu, Titi Ceara and Daniela Fainis. On September 8, when Hanover is to celebrate Romania's Day, there will be an extraordinary concert of the Romanian Philharmonic featuring violin player aerban Lupu, followed by an official dinner that might be attended by President Emil Constantinescu.
