Zapp: the 3G network will cover almost 3 times as many cities

22.06.2009, 16:13 12
Telemobil, the company that operates mobile phone network Zapp, recorded a 36% rise in the number of users for mobile Internet services, following company investments in the network, which amounted to almost 70 million euros since the beginning of the year alone. "The number of clients using internet access services rose 36% year-on-year, while the share of clients only using data services has reached 17%," Chris Bataillard, CEO of Telemobil (Zapp), told ZF. He did not provide details on the exact number of clients or on the company's revenues, specifying only that 20% of Zapp's sales and "an even larger share of the profit" are generated by clients of Internet services. Zapp provides mobile Internet services through two networks: one with national coverage, which uses CDMA technology and one that currently covers 24 cities, using UMTS (3G) technology - also used by Orange, Vodafone and RCS, which will be expanded to cover 62 cities in the second phase, according to Bataillard.
