Windows with Vista functions and XP speed comes to Romania on October 22nd

03.06.2009, 17:24 6

The Microsoft Windows 7 operating system will be launched in Romania and globally on the 22nd of October, at similar prices to those charged for its predecessor, Vista. The company will also introduce its Starter edition for the first time on the Romanian market, an edition meant for lower-specced PCs, such as netbooks. "The final version will be available on the market as of October 22nd. At the end of July, the RTM (Release to Manufacturers) version will be launched for hardware manufacturers, which will develop drivers for the system," said Tudor Galos, Windows Business Group Lead of Microsoft Romania. He specified that the test version (beta) had been downloaded by tens of thousands of users in Romania, the country with the second largest number of testings. The new operating system is being tested by large corporations, as well as by town halls and prefectures, which are preparing to switch to Windows 7. Galos has not provided details on Vista's sales, a system for which Microsoft will continue to provide support services for a seven-year period, saying just that "demand had declined in the context of the retail market decline." Online retailers have high expectations from the new Microsoft operating system, after Vista has been a disappointment. Madalin Durca, marketing manager of PCFun, believes Windows 7 will have a major impact on the market, at least similar to that of Windows XP. "Windows 7 seems to be a fortunate combination of the facilities implemented for the first time by Vista and the XP speed. The market expected Windows Vista very eagerly, but this system has proven to be insufficiently optimised," he explained.
