Unita Turism up 8%

05.01.2004, 00:00 11

Timisoara-based Unita Turism, one of the largest hotel owners in Romania, saw 8% growth in consolidated turnover in the first ten months of 2003, its representatives say. It controls 15 tourism companies, 27 hotels and 3 camping site operators. The data for 2002 show Unita Turism to have logged 10.6 million euro consolidated turnover. Unita Turism in 2003 bought 42% in Turism Transilvania for 2.4 million euros, so that it now owns 92% in this company. Unita Turism will soon delist Turism Transilvania from the Bucharest Stock Exchange and then merge all the hotel units it controls. "We will establish the hotel chain and complete the merger process by March this year. Once the merger has been done, Unita Turism will become the largest domestic hotel chain due to the high number of hotels and accommodations," marketing manager Marius Pintilie said. He added Unita Turism had no plans for affiliation to an international hotel chain for the time being. Out of the hotels Unita Turism controls, six are located in Cluj, four in Constanta, three in Braila and three in Hunedoara. The 30 hotel units of the company total 2,531 rooms and more than 1,000 employees. "Unita Turism's units attained an average occupancy rate of 39%," Pintilie added. He says the revenues derived from food & beverage and event organising account for 39% of the total, with increases registered in cities like Cluj, Iasi and Constanta. ZF
