UniCredit: Mortgage loans will become slightly cheaper

12.04.2009, 15:32 6

The cost of mortgage loans could see a slight decline in the coming period, mainly due to the improvement of foreign investors' perception of Romania, which is reflected in CDS, but will stay relatively high, said Zoltan Major, head of the Retail Division of UniCredit Tiriac Bank. "For mortgage loans, mainly funded in foreign currency, costs could become more moderate, as a result of CDS declining, but the cost of risk will continue to put pressure on financing for the real estate market," said Major. The cost of risk primarily has to do with the risk of clients that apply for a loan. 25% of Romanians would like to acquire a home within the next 10 years, but only 7.5% can afford to make such an investment, according to a survey conducted by UniCredit. Of those wishing to acquire a home, only 30% earn over 500 euros per month.
