The Trident supermarket and hypermarket network, held by Constantin and Alina Mateescu, has announced a 15 million-euro investment in Trident Shopping Center in Sibiu, which covers 21,000 square metres in all. The project will also include the network's largest hypermarket, with a 6,000 square-metre sales area, expected for completion at the end of this year. "Bank credits have so far accounted for a very small amount of the funding for this project," said Adela Vinereanu, PR manager of Trident. Last year, the network, which comprises five stores that cover 2,000-5,000 square metres, posted sales worth 166.1 million RON (50 million euros) and a net profit worth around 2 million euros, according to company data. Trident representatives expect a 20% rise for their retail-derived turnover this year, to 60 million euros. The company also plans to open a hypermarket in Sibiu by the end of this year, as well as two supermarkets and several convenience stores, whose locations have yet to be revealed.
