Transactions that entailed the sale of Daewoo Craiova to American carmaker Ford, of BT Asigurari (BT Insurance), of the America House office building, and the aggressive acquisition campaign conducted by Austrian-based Immoeast are just some of the transactions that the four law firms (Tuca Zbarcea, NNDKP, Popovici Nitu and Musat), which are among the largest on the market in terms of turnover, were involved in last year.
Each of the four firms assisted at least ten major deals last year (overall 57) from a total of 113 deals included in the third edition of the Top Deals Yearbook, while other positions were filled by Radu Taracila Padurari Retevoescu (RTPR), Salans and Schoenherr, with six deals each.
The cumulated value of the biggest deals concluded by each these firms is somewhere between 650 million euros and 1 billion euros, after the four law firms assisted deals worth 3.5 billion euros in total, more than half the value of transactions published in the yearbook.
However, there were very few occasions in which these law firms were involved in the same transactions. In the case of the Ford transaction, lawyers at Tuca Zbarcea advised the AVAS (The State Assets Resolution Authority), while NNDKP was Ford's legal adviser. Another car industry giant was also involved in negotiations, General Motors, represented by another major player on the legal market - Musat & Asociatii.
As for real estate transactions, Popovici Nitu & Asociatii, the main representatives of private equity fund Immoeast, had a busy year, considering the aggressive acquisitions campaign conducted by the Austrian fund.
Apart from real estate deals and the Ford transaction, it was retail deals that were of particular importance for Tuca Zbarcea & Asociatii, with two of the deals that the firm was involved in being the Artima acquisition by Carrefour (on behalf of Carrefour) and the sale of Domo to Equest (on behalf of Domo's shareholders).
NNDKP was involved in the largest sale of an office building conducted so far in Romania, America House (120m euros), the acquisition by Petrom of Petromservice (329 million euros) and the sale of sweets producer Kandia Excelent (100 million euros).
Among the largest transactions in which Musat & Asociatii was involved were the acquisitions made by the Africa Israel group (Laromet, 50% of Cotroceni Park and four hotels worth around 170 million euros), the sale of BT Asigurari (100 million euros) by Banca Transilvania and the sale of Ductil Steel (120 million euros).
