Tobacco advertising law as of 2007

03.08.2004, 00:00 6

During its most recent meeting the Government approved the draft law regarding advertising and sponsorship for tobacco products. This draft law is to come into force on December 31, 2006. It was initially scheduled for enforcement as of July 30, 2005, but the provisions of the first version of the document met with criticism from both the tobacco producers' representatives and people in the advertising business. The draft law prohibits advertising tobacco products in the printed press or in any other printed publication, in cinemas, on billboards, and through information society services. The prohibition also extends to the use of tobacco brands on various products and services, other than those part of the tobacco industry. Furthermore, the normative act prohibits advertising sweets or toys to children that have been manufactured in such a way that the product and/or its packaging deliberately resembles a tobacco product. Tobacco products are products destined to be smoked, sniffed, sucked or chewed, either totally or partly made of tobacco, whether genetically modified or otherwise. ZF
