TiriacAuto estimates deals of 430m euros

24.02.2005, 00:00 10

TiriacAuto, the vehicle division of the group of companies owned by businessman Ion Tiriac, has estimated it will make deals worth 430 million euros for this year.

"Last year we sold 10,000 cars and had a turnover of 340 million euros. This year we want to reach 15,000 cars and 430 million euros," TiriacAuto general manager Marius Pitigoi told Ziarul Financiar.

A 50% increase in the number of cars sold would exceed the rise estimated by analysts for the imported car market of 10-15% by several times. This can be explained by territorial development, says Pitigoi.

"The regions outside Bucharest still have high growth potential. Two years ago we derived over half our sales from Bucharest. Last year Bucharest accounted for only 43% of total sales, and this year the capital's contribution to total sales will drop even further."

According to TiriacAuto representatives, this year's growth in sales will also be aided by the promotional campaigns planned by importers and dealers.

TiriacAuto coordinates the activity of five car importers on the domestic market - Auto Rom, M Car Trading, Romcar, Premium Auto and Hyundai Auto Romania - and represents ten brands: Mercedes-Benz, Smart, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, Ford, Mazda, Jeep, Jaguar, Land Rover and Hyundai.

TiriacAuto also handles the commercial operations of several dealers in and outside Bucharest. TiriacAuto dealers account for more than half of total sales of the ten brands present on the market. Pitigoi says the company intends to prepare its network of dealers for the years following Romania's entry into the EU, when major foreign dealers are likely to enter the market.
