Software outsourcing to fetch 300m euros

02.03.2006, 20:43 10

The value of IT exports of Romanian companies last year amounted to approximately 250 million euros, Florin Talpes, the chairman of the Association of Employers in the Services and Software Industry (ANIS) and general manager of Softwin, one of the leading Romanian IT&C solutions and service providers, told ZIARUL FINANCIAR. He added the value of the Romanian exports, based on software outsourcing, should go up by 20% this year, to 300 million euros. Talpes estimates that despite the increase in salaries in the software sector, outsourcing will remain a good business in Romania for at least ten more years. One of the reasons for the growth of the market over the next few years is the higher added value generated by the Romanian specialists in outsourcing projects that entail knowledge of niche segments, besides general software knowledge. Vasile Baltac, the chairman of the Association for Information Technology and Communications and of the SoftNet Group says, "the software outsourcing done by Romanian companies is being threatened by salary raises, given that in nearby countries like Ukraine and Belarus, programmers get paid very small salaries." Baltac explains, however, that this is not such a big problem, as the "entrance in the EU will also come with a series of incentives, such as VAT deduction for certain services." According to ANIS, over 55% of the total production of the software and services industry of Romania is exported, and European Union customers get the bulk of these exports (85%). ZF
