Galati-based harbour operator Romportmet posted a net profit worth some 3.6 million euros (13 million RON) in the first six months of this year, a 23% drop against the similar period of last year, according to the audit report sent to the RASDAQ. In the first six months of 2005, Romportmet had posted a net profit worth 4.7 million euros (17.2 million RON). The results seen by the company were mainly generated by the slower business in the first three months of the year, when the profit dropped by 41% against the first quarter of 2005. The drop in Romportmet's profit is in line with the trend of the other leading harbour operators, which witnessed a drop at the beginning of this year, after seeing very good results in 2005. Company officials could not be contacted for comment. The company did not provide information on the turnover. In the first quarter of the year, Romportmet's business stood at 3.5 million euros (12.6 million RON), an approximately 2% decline against the similar period of 2005.
