Romanians queue up for apartments, but leave in disappointment

08.02.2009, 17:40 7

At the National Real Estate Fair, organised from Thursday until Sunday in Bucharest, yesterday afternoon visitors queued up in 30-40 person lines, but most of them were disappointed by the prices considered to be still high, as well as by the fact that the offer was concentrated on Bucharest's northern and western areas. Yesterday was the last day of the first apartment fair in Bucharest, for which 11,800 invitations and entrance tickets were counted two hours before closing time. "We weren't expecting to see so many people. Unfortunately, most offers are in the northern and Militari-Drumul Taberei areas," stated Bogdan Munteanu, a visitor working in the financial field. Major developers that came up with offers at the fair include companies such as GTC, Impact, Domus Stil or Can Serv. However, organisers were content with the high number of visitors at the fair. "Exhibitors have amassed contracts for three months from now on and some of them even sold homes with payment in cash, such as in Champions Residence (Ghencea area i.e.) project, where prices start from 40,000 euros. Pre-contracts were also signed within Domus Stil, Nordului House or by Media City agency," stated Adrian Berca, head of BDOBC firm, organiser of the fair. He says that one of the advantages of this fair was the fact that developers were present directly and not through real estate agencies, which eased up negotiations and finding faster solutions.
