Germany's Siemens is looking at the Romanian market with a viewto expanding its production capacities as the exports of equipmentmanufactured by the almost 1,000 people working in the giant'splants in Sibiu and Buzia[ were the only business segment that sawgrowth last year.

Siemens owns four production centres domestically, which lastyear merged generating a single entity. According to statements bythe company's representatives, the process was achieved without anylayoffs.
"Last year, the only segment that posted large increases against2009 was manufacturing. We have around 1,000 people on themanufacturing segment, now grouped in a single entity, makingequipment for markets such as Germany or Austria. Owing to thisfavourable trend, we're mulling the expansion of Romanianproduction capacities for 2011," stated Cristian Seco[an, generalmanager of Siemens.
He did not provide further detail on this issue, specifying nodecision had been made yet as the domestic market was competingwith other neighbouring states.
