One of Romania's main competitive advantages at this moment, itsbeing a low-cost location for major Western companies, will loseits edge in 2020 and the alternative is for the country to become aresearch & development lab for the same entities, believesCodruţ Pascu, managing director with the domestic office of RolandBerger.

"A way must be found for us to stand out and remaincompetitive in terms of goods and foreign trade services. One ofthe challenges Romania and Central and Eastern Europe are facing isthe capacity to tie up with the main players in economies such asGermany and Italy," said Codruţ Pascu in an interview withZF.

Another chance for the domestic market would be the one of itturning into a base for companies from the Asia-Pacific area thatwant to develop services for the European market.

The conclusions are part of a survey about Romania and otherCentral and East-European countries in 2020 the consultancycarried, which also includes a poll among managers regarding theirexpectations in this period.
