Restructuring leaves Unita without 10% of staff

Unita, an insurance company part of Austria's Vienna Insurance group, has reduced its personnel by 10% as part of a restructuring process started in 2006 and finalised in the first half of this year. The company now has 777 employees, from 854 at the beginning of last year, in line with data released by Unita. "These were largely employees working in the accounting departments of the company's subsidiaries. Starting last summer, accounting has been centralised and is no longer performed at a subsidiary level," stated Iulian Dumitru, the company's chairman and general manager. He says the number of Unita employees is set to shrink further next year, when Vienna Insurance will set up a damage assessment company to work for all the companies of the group and where employees in this domain will be transferred. The measures involved as part of the restructuring programme doubled Unita's turnover in the first half of this year. The company during this period underwrote gross premiums worth 235m RON (71m euros). For the entire year, Unita projects turnover worth 400m RON (125m euros) and income worth 2m RON (0.6m euros).
