Record non-resident transactions

10.01.2003, 00:00 12

The total traded volume registered by the foreign portfolio investors on the Romanian market in November peaked at a record $36 million level, according to the data supplied by the National Securities Commission (CNVM). The non-residents in November bought $21.7 million's worth in equities from the Romanian capital market, while selling only $13.5 million's worth. One of the main causes for the high traded volume, but also for the high capital inflow level was the sale of Romanian refrigerator maker Arctic Gaesti by a series of foreign investment funds to the Turkish Arcelik Group. Non-residents have spent $610 million on the Romanian market since mid 1997. Cash inflows amounted to $847 million and 5.7 million euros during the same period of time, while outflows totalled $239 million and 3.7 million euros. The non-resident transactions amounted to nearly $1.4bn during the same interval, with equity purchases accounting for about two thirds of the total. ZF
