Provincial airports in demand

26.10.2004, 00:00 11

Italy's Alitalia recently announced its introduction of a new flight from Timisoara Airport; Romania's national airline, TAROM, increased its number of domestic flights this autumn; while Lufthansa and Air France are both considering introducing flights to new cities across the country from next year. Alongside growth in business, provincial cities are attracting the increased attention of the various airlines operational in Romania. "Timisoara and Cluj are the main cities we are considering in terms of introducing new flights. This is not a decision that will materialise right away, however - it is for the medium term," explained Rodolphe Lenoir, Air France Romania's chief executive. He added that certain profitability criteria must first be fulfilled in order to introduce a new flight to a city in the provinces. ZF
