15.05.2007, 19:19 8

Profi Rom Food, which operates the Profi hard-discount store network, stepped back into the black last year, when it posted an approximately 0.5 million-euro gross profit. The retailer had reported losses of 0.6 million-euro in 2005, after its gross profit had amounted to around 2 million euros in the previous year. Sales from the stores amounted to 44.4 million euros last year, seeing an approximately 13% rise on 2005. The company is expected to operate a 37 store-network by the end of the year and estimates sales of over 73 million euros. Last month, Profi announced that it had taken over the 9 Albinuta discount supermarket network in the Capital, marking Profi's entry onto the Bucharest market where it plans to continue expanding. The transaction estimated by ZF to be of around 10 million euros, also marks the exit of Maxima Lt, the biggest Baltic retail network from the Romanian market. In March, Profi also acquired the four Uni'All convenience stores in Constanta, which were formerly part of the Univers'All network.
