Primola and Ulpio generate 90% higher gross income

27.04.2006, 00:00 13

Supreme Chocolat, the producer of Primola chocolate and Ulpio biscuits, last year registered gross income worth almost 3.3 million RON (900,000 euros), up more than 90% year-on-year.

Supreme Chocolat''s turnover during the same period rose by 25%, reaching a level of 76 million RON (over 21 million euros), after the company last year entered the biscuits segment, launching the Ulpio range, and adding new chocolate products.

"Last year''s turnover growth against the previous year was due to the higher production and because we entered the biscuit market. In turn, profit surged in the wake of turnover growth and of reductions in production distribution costs," said Cristian Stancu, a marketing manager with Supreme Chocolat.

Supreme Chocolat entered the biscuits segment last April, in the wake of investments worth several million euros in a production facility located in Bucharest. Supreme Chocolat has ten brands at present and offers different products covering all price ranges on the market. On the premium segment, the company has the Anidor chocolate, Primola for the medium priced market and Novatini for the economy market.

Supreme Group is made up of four private companies that operate in the food sector and having their own production and distribution units: Supreme Chocolat, a producer of chocolate and biscuits, Supreme Imex, a coffee processor for Kraft Foods, Supreme Gourmet, the company operating coffee shops, and Supreme Distribution, the distribution company. The group''s most important area of activity, though, is chocolate production, say Supreme Group officials.

Supreme Chocolat products are distributed in more that 140 cities countrywide, with a total number of 40,000 outlets, from cash&carry and wholesale outlets to the small shops. At present, Supreme Chocolat has 550 employees, an increase from 345 in 2004.

The first production facility of the group was set up in 1992, specialising in coffee production. In 2001, the coffee brands of the group were acquired by Kraft Foods, and Supreme started focusing on the chocolate market by taking over a chocolate plant.

In line with the latest estimations, the Romanian chocolate market is worth 120-150 million euros annually, while the biscuits market is estimated at 50 million euros.
