Pernod Ricard to enter wine market

03.10.2006, 19:21 11

Pernod Ricard, the fourth biggest worldwide producer in the wine industry, has announced it will enter the Romanian wine market next year, a decision influenced by Romania's integration in the European Union and the abolishment of customs duties, which currently stand at 60%. The French group is already present on the Romanian market, as Pernod Ricard Romania is one of the top three spirits importers. "Once integration into the European Union becomes fact, customs duties for wine will be dropped, which for us is a business opportunity we cannot miss," said Tudor Furir, general manager of Pernod Ricard. Furir adds that locally, the number of restaurants and supermarkets that have imported wine from their portfolio is on the rise. "We will enter the premium category for wines and, at least for the first year, our aims are not quantitative, we are not talking volumes or market share," adds Furir.
