Mihai Ghyka, general manager of Bergenbier brewer, saysthat at the end of the second year of crisis Romanian consumershave learnt to save and that they will not rush to consume as longas they do not feel stability about the future.
"2010 ends with zero economic growth for Romania. A year of aconfirmed and deepened crisis has ended, which has beenparticularly seen in the falling sales of white goods and ofconsumer goods. As long as consumers are not confident about thestability of today, they will shy away from consumption," saidBergenbier head in an interview with ZF.
A year after taking over the reins of Bergenbier, a company with134.8m-euro turnover in 2009, Ghyka says that from his point ofview 2010 was the toughest year, and compared it with 2008, a grimperiod for Romania.
"From a European perspective, we see Germany having exited thecrisis, while other states such as France, Austria, Belgium andLuxembourg, are about to exit. (…) I find it hard to believe thatRomania, which is part of the European train, even though as thelast carriage, will remain isolated," says Ghyka.
