Matache Macelaru' charcuterie brand reaches 14m-euro sales

Charcuterie producer Principal Company, held by some of the Murfatlar shareholders, posted turnover worth 28 million euros in the first ten months of this year, up 80% against the same time last year, and 40% higher than the turnover reported for 2007 as a whole. "The growth driver was Matache Macelaru' brand, for which, although it was launched in 2007, promotion started only in early 2008. Half the turnover was generated by this brand, while in 2007, Matache Macelaru' only fetched 20% of the company's turnover," said Radu Dumitrescu brand manager of Principal Company. He added that sales of Matache Macelaru' brand rose over 300% in the first ten months of this year against the same period of 2007. Dry-cured charcuterie brand Salonta saw an 8% growth and the Principal range, a 5% growth. "The 300% rise of Matache Macelaru is spectacular, but a little irrelevant, considering that in the first six months of last year, the products were available only in 100 stores," explains Dumitrescu.
