Leoni makes over 4m-euro profit

The local branch of the German group Leoni, which produces electrical and other types of wiring for the automotive industry, as well as home appliances, telecommunications products and mechanical systems, reported 86.4 million-euro turnover last year.
Bistrita-based Leoni Wiring Systems, a subsidiary of German group Leoni, operating in the industry of automotive components, estimates a 14% increase in turnover for this year, to approximately 98 million euros.

According to company officials, the main factors that contributed to the rise of financial indicators last year, were the increase in the volume of orders, as well as the introduction of new models in production. Currently, the plant in Bistrita employs over 2,950 people, with the company's main clients being the car companies DaimlerChrysler and BMW.
Company representatives also stated that the net profit posted by Bistrita-based Leoni Wiring Systems increased 11.6% in 2006, reaching a figure valued at 4.2 million euros (14.9 million RON).
Additionally, during the same period, net assets also increased 37.58%, to 15.6 million euros (54.8 million RON).
German group Leoni owns two production centres in Romania, one in Arad and the other in Bistrita. The production centre in Arad spreads over an 8.5-hectare production surface area.
The construction of the Bistrita-based plant was completed in 2003, with initial investments in land and buildings exceeding 18 million euros.
Leoni started investment in Romania in 1999, with the development of the Arad-based wiring plant, which saw an over 58.9 million-euro turnover in 2005 and a workforce totalling 2,680 people.
Over the course of last year, the Arad-based company increased its share capital by 5 million euros (17.7 million RON), to 12.9 million euros (45.7 million RON), through a cash contribution made by its sole shareholder. Leoni Wiring Systems is part of the Leoni Bordnetze Holding group and is sole shareholder of the Romanian branch.
