Investment pays as Mobexpert sees 62% growth

06.05.2004, 00:00 6

Mobexpert, the most important furniture retailer on the domestic market, saw a 62% growth in sales (if calculated in euros) on the Bucharest market in Q1, according to chairman Dan Viorel Sucu. The group's retail-related revenues in the rest of the country rose 10%. The company analysed sales in Bucharest separately due to the opening of two furniture hypermarkets there last year, doubling the size of its commercial premises. "The 62% sales growth in Bucharest was below our 75% goal. However, the furniture retail business is generally slower in the first three months of the year and we expect to catch up in the second half," Sucu stated. However, he did not reveal the turnover during the first quarter. "Sales per square metre were lower, which is only natural. The absorption capacity of the Bucharest market is very high indeed, though limited. Thus sales could not have possibly have increased as quickly as the expansion of our commercial premises," Sucu added. ZF
