Investment in mutual funds to go up to 7-11bn euros in 5 years

Total investment in mutual funds could reach 5%- 8% of GDP in the next five years, according to Mihai Ion, president of Raiffeisen Asset Management (RAM). The National Forecast Commission estimates GDP to top 146.3 billion euros by 2010, which puts investments on the mutual fund market at some 7.3-11.7 billion euros. At the end of September, assets of mutual funds amounted to 151.9 million euros (533 million RON), which means they could see a 46-fold increase in the next five years. He bases his assessment on the fact that countries in the region have seen significant sums invested in mutual funds in the last few years. "Investments on the mutual funds market in the region, which joined the EU have reached an approximately 5%- 8% share of GDP,"stated Mihai Ion, at the "Zilele Biz"("Biz Days") conference.
