Intrarom sales soar 50%

26.04.2001, 00:00 15

Intrarom, a producer of telecommunication equipment and integrated solutions, registered 5.3 million dollars in Q1 profits, according to the Romanian accounting system, amid 29 million dollars in sales, up 50% against the year-ago period, Anca Radu, the company's financial manager, told Ziarul Financiar.

Intrarom estimates sales of 160 million dollars in 2001. Anca Rusu says that the company will reach this year's target, as "the first quarter is never the best."

She considers that the 18% gross profit margin might slightly decrease over the entire year, to 16-17%. The company's largest clients are RomTelecom and Cosmorom, which buy 45% of Intrarom products. Another 45% are exports, while the residual 10% account for contracts with other clients.

Anca Rusu says that the company is developing in relation with RomTelecom's investment plans, the regional expansion of the main shareholder, Greek group Intracom, and the Romanian projects in public sectors and utilities.

"The investment need in infrastructure is huge. I think we will be a well-positioned company providing products and services to any operator by the time the telecommunications market is liberalised (January 1, 2003, i.e.)," Rusu considers.
