Intrarom lands 2m euro contract

20.01.2003, 00:00 6

Telecommunications company Intrarom signed a 2.21 million euro deal with Transelectrica in view of building the necessary telecommunications infrastructure for data exchanges between Romanian and Bulgarian networks, Intrarom announced. The project is financed by Phare funds and is part of the Transeuropean Energy Network. The infrastructure consists in fibre optics cables installed across the Danube, transmission equipment, as well as various other pieces of equipment for the National Central Control Office. This is the first contract ever awarded to Intrarom by Transelectrica. Intrarom says it won the contract following a tender organised by the Phare Financing and Contracting Unit within the Finance Ministry. Intrarom is one of the leading players on the telecom equipment market in Romania and is part of the powerful Greek group Intracom. Intrarom's fast-paced development was stopped by the international telecom market decline in 2002 and by the halting of RomTelecom's investment projects, its main client in Romania. ZF
