Interbrands exceeds 1bn euros one year ahead of schedule

Interbrands Marketing & Distribution, the largest distributor of consumer goods, posted business worth 1.05 billion euros last year and joined 10 or so companies in Romania with turnovers worth billions of euros. The distributor reached the 1 billion-euro mark a year sooner than anticipated in 2006, as a result of the development of the FMCG market, organic growth and of a partnership with sweets producer Cadbury, which took over Kandia-Excelent. The increase registered in 2007 against the previous year stood at almost 37%, according to data provided by Interbrands. Other large distribution companies on the market, such as Aquila Group and Top Brands Distribution, also forecast high growth rates last year, of over 15-20% against 2006. The FMCG market continued its growth in 2007, whilst the first year of EU membership brought increases to the population's incomes, which were reflected in consumption and in an interest towards premium products. Interbrands entered the market at the same time as Procter & Gamble, its first partner, in 1993. Other major players on the FMCG market joined its list of suppliers later, such as British American Tobacco, Nestle and Orkla Foods.
