Icelandic furniture retailer Jysk prepares for market entry

19.06.2008, 19:45 12

Icelandic furniture and interior decorations retailer Jysk, which currently has eight stores in Romania, plans to enter the Bucharest market next year, and is currently examining three potential locations. "The store in Bucharest will cover 2,500 square metres, but we cannot reveal the exact location until we have signed the contract. We have not opened a store in Bucharest, because we have not found an appropriate location," said Steen Hansen, Jysk's representative for Romania. The Icelandic group operates a 1,300-store network, most of which are in Europe, and last year posted a 1.6 billion-euro turnover. The group employs 12,000 people and has 303 stores in Eastern European countries. The retailer entered the local market in March 2007, when it opened the store in Oradea. "Currently, we have eight stores in Romania, in Oradea, Satu Mare, Baia Mare, Targu-Mures, Timisoara, Galati, Cluj and Deva, but we plan to reach 12 stores by the end of the year," added Steen Hansen, who did not wish to specify the investments involved in these projects.
