Sales of the Toyota Prius, a model equipped with a petrol/electric hybrid powertrain, have increased to twelve units, seven of which were registered in July. The hybrid model boasted its strong sales increase during the hot summer months and received orders for 11 units, after it initially only found one buyer within the first five months of the year. The price of a Prius model starts at 24,850 euros, for the basic version, and can reach 26,450 euros for the top-end version (both VAT included). Early this month, Honda Trading launched the new Civic Hybrid model onto the domestic market, the main rival for the Prius. Two weeks after being launched, the number of orders received by the importer amounted to a total of eight. The price of a Civic Hybrid starts at 23,776 euros, VAT included. The Toyota Prius and the Honda Civic Hybrid both stand out because of their low levels of fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions owing to the presence of the electrical engine. This July, Toyota sales on the domestic market reached 911 units, which included 892 Toyota cars and 19 Lexus cars (the luxury unit of the Japanese carmaker). Overall, Toyota Romania sold 5,384 units within the first seven months of the year, out of which 5,315 Toyota cars and 69 Lexus luxury cars were sold. The Yaris, Toyota's small-class model, is still the carmaker's bestseller, with 217 units sold in July and a total of 1,143 since the beginning of this year. Yaris sales almost equalled those of the Skoda Fabia.
