Madison, Romania's first luxury perfumery, opened by Madeleine Florescu (former general manager of Geroaslan) in mid December, has already sold three of the most expensive perfumes in the world, Clive Christian. The price of a 30 ml bottle is 2,200 euros. "Sales went beyond all expectations. We initially brought three perfumes and thought that we'd sell one every three months at best, but it seems that we ran out of stock from December through February," Madeleine Florescu, Madison's owner told ZF. Perfumes are largely imported from France and Italy but there are also brands from Japan, Spain, UK, and the USA. Prices range from 50 euros for 30 ml bottles and reach as much as several hundreds or even several thousands of euros, depending on brand or scent. For instance, Clive Christian, which has only 1,000 bottles made a year, retails at a high price because the bottle is made from Baccara crystal, adorned with a gold ring with a diamond, while the ingredients are difficult to find. The volume of orders received each week has encouraged Florescu to set a turnover target of 0.3 million euros for the first year in business, and twice that amount in 2009.
