The Euroclinic hospital, the first private hospital on the domestic market, reported a 300% rise in revenues last year, amounting to 7.5 million RON (2.12 million euros), compared with 2005. The Euroclinic representatives estimate the turnover will amount to 5 million euros this year.
"The investment topped 14 million euros. The project was not without risks and obstacles, as the authorisation process took very long, one of the reasons for this being its unique character," said Emilia Bunea, vice-president of Interamerican.
The hospital is part of the integrated system Medisystem, along with the insurance services offered by insurer Interamerican and a network of medical service suppliers. Euroclinic was opened in May 2005, making 2006 the first year when the hospital was fully operational throughout an entire year.
"The project for the Euroclinic hospital took shape in 2001, when the public-private partnership between Interamerican and the Emergency Hospital in Bucharest was originally planned," says Emilia Bunea.
At the time when the construction work for Euroclinic started, the group it is part of had been operating for over 10 years in Greece working in the private hospital sector.
"If we wanted to implement the Medisystem concept, we had to contract a supplier in hospital services specialising in a large variety of services. This supplier did not exist; therefore we decided to build a completely new private hospital. We preferred this solution to the prospect of renovating a wing in a state-owned hospital, as it allowed us to optimally structure the personnel and patient flows within the planned space and, in addition, we had valuable previous experience in building a new hospital in Athens," explained Emilia Bunea.
The number of patients registered by Euroclinic topped 10,000 at the end of last year and this year the hospitales representatives target a figure of 20,000 registered patients.
