Electrica Transilvania Sud: drop in sales, but a rise in income

01.08.2007, 19:00 9

Electrica Transilvania Sud, an electricity supply and distribution company and one of the three divisions of Electrica yet to be privatised, has registered a turnover worth 651.9m RON (195.6m euros) in the first half of this year, up 10% on last year. According to Mediafax, the company's income increased by 27% from H1, 2006, to 45.7m RON (13.7m euros). However, the amount of sold power decreased against the same period in 2006, with the company providing 1.78 million MWh during the analysed period, down from 1.87 million MWh registered in the first half of 2006. The company's representatives could not be contacted for further information. According to Mediafax, quoting company representatives, the decrease was primarily due to the opening up of the electricity market, which has allowed industrial customers to migrate from one supplier to another in search of the best offer. Another factor behind the decrease is the closure or limitation of the activity of some companies such as Rulmentul, Tractorul or Nitramonia. The company's investments doubled in H1, to 56.83m RON (17.05m euros).
