Dedeman DIY product retailer, controlled by Dragoş and AdrianPavăl brothers of Bacău, last year registered 360m-euro turnover,up 42%, becoming the new leader of the DIY market, according to ZFestimates.

Dedeman's main rivals, Germany's Praktiker and France's Bricostore, posted falling turnovers in the wake of the almost entirely frozenexpansion investments in recent years, so that according to ZFestimates the two companies generated cumulated revenues similarwith those of Bacău company.

Estimates are based on sales Bricostore reported for the entire2010, around 140m euros, and sales revenues announced by Praktikerfor the first nine months of last year (153.6m euros). Contacted byZF, Praktiker representatives stated they would release figures forthe entire 2010 soon.

"The increase is substantial and surprises many people, but it isowed to the fact that we opened five stores in 2010. Moreover, wehad stores opened in 2009 that had their entire operating year lastyear," Dragoş Pavăl, chairman and shareholder in Dedeman, toldZF.
