Cotnari SA winemaker enjoyed an increase in sales volumes of around 70% for the first nine months of the year, compared with the corresponding period last year. The value of sales reached 9 million euros, equalling last year's full-year results. "We saw this growth mainly because we had managed to get our commercial department in perfect working order and were able to supervise our distributors' operations much better. Also we managed to retain the same average price of 1.2-1.4 euros per 750ml bottle compared with a market average of 2-2.5 euros," explained Constantin Deleanu, Cotnari general manager and one of its shareholders. The company sold 5.5 million bottles of wine in the first three quarters of the year and estimates full-year sales of 9 million bottles. Cotnari produced some 6 million litres of wine this year. It now expects 2004 sales to reach 12 million euros, around 1 million euros more than predicted early in the year. Cotnari makes one of the best-selling wines in Romania: Grasa de Cotnari. ZF
