25.09.2006, 19:07 8

None of the big drugstore networks in Romania exceeded 1 million euros in profit last year, In fact, most of them reported a downward trend in terms of net incomes, and the market leader, Sensiblu, even slipped into the red. The majority of players have not yet revealed last year's financial results, only their turnover. Subsequently, whereas the market leader, Sensiblu, saw a net profit worth over 1 million euros and business worth 50.5 million euros in 2004, last year the network recorded losses worth 6.3 million euros, according to data on the web site of the Ministry of Finance. Another leading player on the pharmaceutical retail sector is Hermes Pharma, which operates the City Pharma chain. According to the data it published in the Official Gazette, the financial year ended with losses worth 0.7 million euros and turnover worth 5.4 million euros. Both players have in common that they have conducted massive investment in expansion. Sensiblu operated 177 drugstores last year, and is planning to continue expansion this year.
