23.11.2007, 18:29 9

Greece-based Banca Romaneasca (Romanian Bank) wants to raise more money from its clients by increasing interest rates for deposits in RON by up to three quarters of a percentage point. The bank's interest rates currently stand at 6.9% to 8% a year, depending on the maturity. The highest interest rate is for 12-month deposits. This continues the series of increases announced by other players, after the NBR (National Bank of Romania) decided to increase the monetary policy interest rate by half a percentage point in October, to 7.5% a year. In addition, Banca Romaneasca has decided to reduce interest rates for deposits in dollars, by 0.4 percentage points on average. The bank now has interest rates of 4.5% to 4.7% a year, depending on the maturity. After the strengthening of the monetary policy in autumn, several banks have announced higher interest rates for deposits and promotions with more attractive interest rates for saving products. Bankers will also take advantage of the winter holidays to promote their lending products.
