Austrian companies last year invested 500m euros in Romania, andthe officials of Austria's Embassy in Bucharest expect a similarvalue of investments for this year.

The overall investment volume, namely the investments Austrianplayers have operated in Romania after 1990, stands at 10bn eurosor 20% of the total investments carried out in our country duringthis period. Austria thus still leads in the ranking of foreigninvestors in Romania. In 2008, the top three positions were held byAustria, the Netherlands and Germany.
At present, there are 5,830 Austrian-held companies in Romania, ofwhich 1,000 are active Austrian investors. These companies havecreated around 100,000 jobs domestically.
"Practically, there is no field at present where Austrian firmsshould not operate in Romania," Austrian officials say. "Theseplayers do not want the support of the Romanian state, but a stableframework. (...) All the investors want to be able to plan for thelong term and not to be facing sudden legal and fiscalchanges."
