Iulian Stanciu (photo), a shareholder in the IT company Asesoft Distribution, which estimates a business worth 95 million dollars for this year, has acquired 50% stakes in two companies involved in vegetable production and processing, and plans to start exporting in 2008. "The initial investment in the business was approximately 200,000 euros and last year we invested in building a greenhouse on a 10,000 square-metre area of land, and also modernising the canned vegetable plant using funding worth 1.6 million RON from a Sapard programme, with the project reaching completion last month," stated Iulian Stanciu, who is also general manager of Asesoft Distribution. Stanciu is not the only representative of the Asesoft group of firms to have been involved in projects on markets other than IT. Sebastian Ghita, the majority shareholder of the group, invested in Domeniile Viticole Tohani (Tohani Vineyard), a business which he sold at the beginning of the year. Stanciu holds 50% in the shares of Solana, a company specialising in vegetable production, and also Almis, a company involved in the production and distribution of canned vegetables, both located in Braila county. "The person who headed the business, Florin Dragan, who is also the second largest shareholder and general manager of the two companies, went to college with me, and when I couldn't handle everything by myself, he came up with a partnership proposition. I thought it was an interesting proposition, I analysed it, and decided to take half the shares," said Stanciu.
