Arcelor Mittal invests 53m dollars in environmental projects in Galati

28.08.2007, 18:20 8

Arcelor Mittal Galati, the largest steel plant in Romania and a division of the ArcelorMittal group, leader in the world ranking of steel producers, has 64 ongoing environmental projects, worth a total of 53 million dollars (39 million euros). The company would start operating a baghouse system (a dust filtering system) worth 7.5 million dollars, it said. This project is the fourth in the compliance programme agreed upon with the National Environmental Guard. By the end of July 2007, the company had invested over 19 million dollars in projects that entail environmental protection and are included in the environmental compliance programme. Out of the 13 aims of this programme, the company has finalised 3, with a further 8 in various stages of development, and 2 set for completion in 2008. The steel plant Mittal Steel Galati, formerly Sidex Galati, has recently changed its name to Arcelor Mittal Galati. The name change of the four companies comes in the wake of the takeover by Mittal Steel (the largest global steel producer) of the European steel group Arcelor (the second largest global steel producer) in 2006.
