ANRCTI administers first fine for spam

12.03.2008, 18:54 7

Urban si Asociatii SRL is the first Romanian company to be fined for sending unsolicited commercial messages, also known as spam. The fine amounts to 1,000 RON, and was charged by the National Regulatory Authority for Communications and Information Technology (ANRCTI). "At the end of 2007, ANRCTI received the first complaint, which signalled that the petitioner had received several unsolicited commercial messages at their electronic mail address in September, which promoted a newsletter and the image of a trading company which is involved in recovery of receivables," Dan Cristian Georgescu, chairman of ANRCTI told ZIARUL FINANCIAR. This petition has also prompted ANRCTI to start an inquiry into unsolicited commercial messages, which are promoting the products of a publishing house, according to Georgescu. In the first two months of 2008, ANRCTI received around 50 complaints regarding the reception of unsolicited commercial messages, which are currently being investigated.
