Emerson, a global leader in the electrical engines industry, yesterday was scheduled to sign a contract for the purchase of a plot of land of 11.5 hectares in the Tetarom II industrial park, where it will make investments worth 125 million euros, the largest investment in Cluj county.
The company will pay 230,000 euros for the land in question, given that the price requested by authorities stood at 2 euros/square metre. In the respective area, the price of land ranges between 25-30 euros per square metre.
"We are happy with this result and so should the local community," stated Viorel Gavrea, manager of Tetarom industrial park. He added that the firm Emerson SRL had already been created, having its headquarters inside the Mechanics Faculty of the Technical University, and that work for the construction of the first Emerson plant will start in April at the latest.
The US investment will be realised in several stages, each of these being linked to the construction of five plants.
The first will involve investments worth 25m euros and the others, investments of around 100m euros, will be developed over the next 3-5 years.
The project includes the hiring of around 2,000 persons during the five-year period in which the investments will be carried out, mostly highly skilled individuals.
The chairman of Cluj County Council, Marius Nicoara, stated he hoped the project could be started as soon as possible.
"There are still some legal aspects that haven''t been sorted out yet and that are being considered by specialists on both sides. We all want to finalise these talks so that Emerson is able to start building the first plant," Nicoara added.
The chairman of Cluj County Council said Emerson investments will be realised in Cluj depending on demand from the existent market for the company''s output, and would attract a number of other investors it works with in the domain.
In fact, last week the representatives of the US consulate in Cluj publicly stated that another US investment would be announced in February, without providing further details.
The US group also announced it would collaborate with the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, specifying it intended to build a research centre in domains such as electrotechnics, automation and robotics design, and that also planned to hire more than 200 engineers specialising in various fields.
