Sibiu-based construction materials distributor Ambient, controlled by businessman Ioan Ciolan, intends to expand to every city with more than 50,000 inhabitants over the next five years. This could bring the Ambient network to over 45 stores, if we consider the number of cities with over 50,000 inhabitants. Ambient, which is pursued by several foreign investors, opened two logistic warehouses this year in Timisoara and Brasov, and is set to open a store in Ramnicu Valcea. "This year, we have invested around 5.5 million euros in expanding the warehousing and commercial centre network, and we want to open another two warehouses in Craiova and Pitesti by the end of the year," said Ioan Ciolan, Ambient's general manager.

The company has so far invested around 75 million euros in developing the business, with the investments being covered both from credits and from the company's own funds.

"Ambient's credits amount to around 45 million euros," say Ambient representatives, who have not offered any information on a potential sale of the company.

The construction materials distributor owns 14 commercial centres (Sibiu, Cluj-Napoca, Targu-Mures, Baia Mare, Bistrita, Alba-Iulia, Medias, Deva, Gheorgheni, Sighisoara, Nasaud, Lugoj, Blaj, Borsa), 9 stores (Sibiu - 3 stores, Cisnadie, Dumbraveni, Arad, Ramnicu-Valcea, Satu Mare and Tarnaveni) and 4 logistic warehouses (Sibiu, Bucharest, Brasov and Timisoara).
