Air France KLM: November sees first negative signal on the market

06.01.2009, 20:33 6

Air France KLM, one of the leading airline operators on the Romanian market, recorded a 10% advance in passenger traffic on the Bucharest-Paris route, a 6% advance on the Bucharest-Amsterdam route and is considering introducing new routes, although the first negative signals have arisen on the market. "It is hard to say what will happen with the airline market. October saw the first sign of a slowdown, while November witnessed the first negative signal, because the value of tickets went down according to statistics released by IATA (The International Air Transport Association)," said Alexandru Dobrescu, Air France KLM's manager for Romania. The airline does not provide data regarding its turnover or profit margin in Romania, but, according to ZF estimates based on the market share announced by the company, Air France is likely to exceed 50 million euros in turnover in 2008. Air France currently operates five daily flights from Bucharest to Paris under a code sharing partnership with TAROM (the Romanian national airline), while KLM has three daily flights from Bucharest to Amsterdam.
