Aegon ends the first year with 2.2m RON turnover

Aegon Asigurari de Viata, a company controlled by Aegon Dutchgroup, which entered the domestic market in early 2009, ended itsfirst operational year with total underwritten premiums worth 2.2mRON (520,000 euros). "Around 80% of sold policies were unit-linkedones," state the company's representatives. At the launch moment,the representatives of Aegon, a group that has invested severaltens of million euros in the life insurer, but also in the privatepension company it owns on the domestic market (BT Aegon), statedtheir target was to reach the top five on the life insurance marketfive years after starting operations, that is in 2014. At present,the biggest players on this market are ING, Alico (the former AIGLife), BCR Asigurari de Viata, Aviva and Asirom. Life insurers arebracing up for another difficult year, with the market set toremain flat, at the level of 2009, at best. On the private pensionmarket, Aegon managed a pillar II fund with 154,000 contributorsand 68.2m RON net assets in late January.
