08.03.2004, 00:00 11

Astra insurance company logged 1,210bn ROL (about 32.2m euros) in premiums collected in 2003, up about 23% in euros compared with the results registered the year before, according to the company's preliminary financials. General insurance accounted for 1,200bn ROL out of the total 1,290bn ROL in premiums subscribed, while life insurance policies generated 15bn ROL revenues. The Insurance Supervision Commission (CSA) data show Astra to have logged 911.7bn ROL revenues from premiums on the general insurance segment in 2002, while life insurance policies amounted to 13.4bn ROL. The data released by the insurance company do not mention Astra's 2003 profit. It posted 1.3bn ROL net profit a year ago, following the 95.8bn ROL losses in 2001. "2003 was a year of consolidation and reassertion among the main players on the market for Astra. Analysing 2003 we may say the company had an outstanding development, and managed to boost its insurance revenues by over $11m in spite of extreme competition," Astra deputy chairman Dan Domnitanu said.
