The revenues of Orange Romania, number 1 on the Romanian communications market, fell by 7.8% last year, to 973 million euros, amid a difficult economic context.

"In Romania the revenues fell 8% largely because of the difficult economic situation, while in Slovakia the 7% decline is mainly due to regulatory cuts," according to information provided by Orange.

In the fourth quarter, Orange Romania's revenues fell by 4.8%, to 243 million euros, from 255 million euros in the similar period of 2009, but the company attracted 60,000 new customers.

The company's number of customers fell 4.8% last year, to 10.469 million, from 10.995 million at the end of 2009, reads a report of French group France Telecom. The decline in the customer base was felt especially on the prepaid cards segment, according to Orange. The company does not provide details on the share of post-paid to overall customers. In the region that Romania is a part of, nearly 48% of customers are post-paid users.
