Mihai Ghyka, Bergenbier: Romania is part of the European train, though it’s the last carriage
Mihai Ghyka, general manager of Bergenbier brewer, says
that at the end of the second year of crisis Romanian consumers
have learnt to save and that they will not rush to consume as long
as they do not feel stability about the future.
"2010 ends with zero economic growth for Romania. A year of a
confirmed and deepened crisis has ended, which has been
particularly seen in the falling sales of white goods and of
consumer goods. As long as consumers are not confident about the
stability of today, they will shy away from consumption," said
Bergenbier head in an interview with ZF.
A year after taking over the reins of Bergenbier, a company with
134.8m-euro turnover in 2009, Ghyka says that from his point of
view 2010 was the toughest year, and compared it with 2008, a grim
period for Romania.
"From a European perspective, we see Germany having exited the
crisis, while other states such as France, Austria, Belgium and
Luxembourg, are about to exit. (…) I find it hard to believe that
Romania, which is part of the European train, even though as the
last carriage, will remain isolated," says Ghyka.
