Can Pack supplies tens of millions of cans to Coca Cola and Pepsi Co
Cristian Cornea, general manager of metal packaging manufacturer
Can Pack in Bucharest, whose clients include big soft drinks and
beer producers, says next year it will deliver up to 10% more cans
to soft drinks producers and almost 25% more to beer
producers.
"Amid lower consumption in outdoor establishments and restaurants
(where bottles are the best-selling container i.e.), the popularity
of cans is on the rise. In other words, household consumption has
increased," Cristian Cornea said.
The company posted a 40 million-euro turnover last year, down from
53 million euros in 2008, and an around 197,000-euro profit with
165 employees, according to Trade Registry data. The rise in the
share of beer cans in the total sales was also due to promotional
campaigns conducted by brewers this year, believes Cornea. Whilst
last year the share of canned beer was 14.8%, this year the head of
Can Pack estimates it will reach 17-18% compared with the average
of Western-European producers, of 35%-40%. Asked by ZF how many
aluminium cans Can Pack supplies to soft drinks producers Coca-Cola
and PepsiCo, Cornea said he could not give an exact number, but
they amount to several dozen million cans per year.
