Austrian investors in Romania do not need support of Romanian state, but stability
Austrian companies last year invested 500m euros in Romania, and the officials of Austria's Embassy in Bucharest expect a similar value of investments for this year.
The overall investment volume, namely the investments Austrian
players have operated in Romania after 1990, stands at 10bn euros
or 20% of the total investments carried out in our country during
this period. Austria thus still leads in the ranking of foreign
investors in Romania. In 2008, the top three positions were held by
Austria, the Netherlands and Germany.
At present, there are 5,830 Austrian-held companies in Romania, of
which 1,000 are active Austrian investors. These companies have
created around 100,000 jobs domestically.
"Practically, there is no field at present where Austrian firms
should not operate in Romania," Austrian officials say. "These
players do not want the support of the Romanian state, but a stable
framework. (...) All the investors want to be able to plan for the
long term and not to be facing sudden legal and fiscal
changes."
